Compared to the other more touristic lakes, Lago d'Orta is more approachable, less crowded yet it offers charming villages, tasty food and a more homely and cozy atmosphere. The are is known for its picturesque scenery, including the charming town of Orta San Giulio, located on a peninsula with a view of the lake's only island, Isola San Giulio. The lake is considered one of the cleanest in Europe and is suitable for swimming and kayaking.
